In the steps of Michelangelo Antonioni, railwaybook Shanghai Suzhou by Bruno Baltzer is a photographic album witch gathers the images carried out at the time of its railway translation from Shanghai to Suzhou. Since i’m in China, i was looking for a nice shot of the chinese flag. It comes almost for the first october the chinese national day. Thanks Thomas here and let’s go for the golden week. By the way it seams there is a fortuitous correspondence with chang’e 2, the 134 million dollars fireworks. hmmm

In Shanghai, rare are the angle of the buildings on main streets crossings which are not truncated. I like it, it opens visibility, makes turns safer and at last often shops are located there.

i already showed you the royal meridien. here, but now you will see the view from it! Whaou! It is a tip from marcin who is also deedjiing tonight at The Nut And even better i made it special: enter the meridien from the backdoor (the mall), get at the banquets or events rooms from there go to the top bar ‘789’ with the lift, during daytime it is close but! you can have a 360 deg view over Shanghai and make a wonder sieste in the sofas. Then the barmen are so nice that they will let you sleep until 6pm, then have a cocktail! what a perfect afternoon.

Following Biljana Ciric advice, i called Jean Loh From Gallery Beaugeste. First speaking in english he stopped the conversation telling she might have told me that he speaks french. i switch with pleasure et nous convenons d’un rdv pour le sur lendemain.

La réputation de Beaugeste gallery est très bonne auprès des gens que je rencontre entre temps. Je me perds dans la traversée d’un quartier assez inextricable et me retarde tant la situation de la galerie au 5 ème étage du batiment 5 du 210 taikang road est inattendue. Jean Loh présente beaugeste comme étant une galerie amateur, sic, et ce qui est accroché au mur évoque une recherche passionnelle du sens même de ce que peut être la photographie. Les images d’Eric Mannerts évoquent Shanghai en noir et blanc, le regard est très doux et sa précision, saisissante. Je suis heureux de me rappeler cette démarche photographique.

Jean Loh a travaillé 6 mois au Luxembourg et la série “after midnight” l’enchante: Luxembourg semble beau! C’est la première personne qui arrive à associer si évidement after midnight avec Luxembourg: c’est ma vision de Luxembourg. Y cherche du beau? Merci monsieur Loh. Surpris le Bruno. J’ouvre les images de la “gloire de mon père” conte l’histoire, passe de jour en jour. Génial dit-il. Trop tard dit-il aussi. Trop tard pour un festival. Trop tard pour une citation dans le dernier livre qu’il vient d’éditer “My cousin from América” a photo-biographic essay de Tatjana Loh qui s’applique a faire un portrait biographique de son père.

Nous parlons. J’ai alors ma première conversation d’intérêt sur la photographie depuis que je suis à Shanghai. D’après Jean Loh, la Chine est en train de sauver la photographie mondiale! Et moi qui cherche à préciser les termes de ma prochaine visite…. à suivre donc.

Je repars avec le livre du magnifique travail “voyage au pays du réel” de Thierry Girard ainsi que trois livrets sur la photographie chinoise contemporaine.
